Yahoo Autos Hispano Suiza Unveils Carmen Sagrera, a 1100-Horsepower Electric Hypercar

In a nod to its storied past, Hispano Suiza has unveiled the Carmen Sagrera, the latest addition to its line of electric hypercars, marking the brand's 120th anniversary. The Carmen Sagrera, the third model in the company’s electric hypercar range, pays homage to Hispano Suiza’s industrial roots in the Sagrera neighborhood of Barcelona, where the company's first major factory was established in 1911.
Equipped with four 275 hp motors, the Carmen Sagrera boasts a combined power output of 1100 hp and a torque of 1160 Nm. This setup allows the hypercar to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds. The motors, which are permanent magnet and axial flow, are arranged in series, with two on each side of the vehicle. Powering these motors is a 103 kWh battery, developed and manufactured at Hispano Suiza’s Montmeló facility. The battery features next-generation lithium-ion cell packs, comprising 15 modules of 24 cells each, resulting in a total of 360 cells. This configuration enhances energy density, enabling the car to achieve a range of 480 km in the WLTP cycle.
The Carmen Sagrera’s power is transmitted to the rear axle through a virtual limited-slip differential, optimizing performance and effectively managing the torque delivered to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires. The vehicle's suspension system features deformable parallelogram axles with adjustable shock absorbers and helical springs, providing customizable firmness and height settings. Complementing this setup are 400mm carbon-ceramic brake discs on both axles, ensuring superior stopping power.
Design-wise, the Sagrera draws inspiration from the early 20th-century Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII, evident in its pointed grille and fluid hood air vents. The car's rear is dominated by a stork wing-shaped spoiler, paying tribute to the brand’s emblem, and an aerodynamic diffuser. Inside, the hypercar features a redesigned central console and infotainment system, with Alcantara upholstery accented by black and red leather details, aligning with the brand's signature aesthetic.
Hispano Suiza CEO Sergio Martínez Campos expressed pride in the achievements of the Carmen range since its inception in 2019, emphasizing the company's plans to expand into key markets such as the United States and complete European homologation in 2024. The Carmen Sagrera will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK in mid-July, further solidifying Hispano Suiza’s legacy in the electric hypercar segment.
